The Hero’s Journey is a topic I’ve explored with students as a way to teach types of conflict, including internal and external, as well as a way to teach grit and resilience for extraordinary humans. I wrote a parody tale of the Hero’s Journey for Pure Slush called The Time of Bacon. I often use this to teach the different stages of the Hero’s Journey, as well as character archetypes, in creative writing and short story construction.
